Guitarist Lee Daniels and bassist Al Kratzer have spent the better part of a decade working together in trios and as a duo in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. Along the way they have put together a substantial catalog of original tunes, none of which have ever been properly captured and released until now.

The current quartet format is a relatively new direction featuring Gary Staples on piano and Tom Bagshaw on the drums. Staples brings his own dimension of chordal texture as well as a new solo voice to the mix, while Bagshaw's artistically understated drumming provides the propulsive glue that holds it all together.

The recording process emulated the old Blue Note records approach; a few nights of rehearsal followed by a single afternoon session. Two or three takes of each tune were captured with the best of each kept.

The tunes in this collection are a mix of recent and older compositions by Daniels and Kratzer that represent the "straight ahead with a twist" approach that guides their work overall. Look for the next installment later this year.
